The Force Unleashed Demo Review

TFU

I remember back in 1985 for my Birthday I was taken to Showbiz Pizza (like Chucky Cheese for those of you who aren’t old enough) and I walked up to a machine bathed in a mystical light that was indescribable. No amount of singing, animatronic animals could keep me away. Well it may not have gone exactly that way but aren’t all arcade machines the most glorious thing you’ve seen when your 6 years old? I put in that golden token and played a game that started my love affair with video games. Star Wars from Atari, I got to be in the driver’s seat flying that trench covered in turret fire. Since then Star Wars video games have been good or awful, Tie Fighter vs. X-Wing and Rogue Squadron were good vehicle combat games. The Jedi Knight series let you actually wield a Lightsaber and use force powers and Battlefront let you actually fly, shoot and cut your way to a victory playing as an Imperial or Rebel. Knights of the Old Republic told epic stories not known to us before. As far as everything else you can forget them, they were piles of Wookie turds, I’m looking at you Jedi Power Battles and Episode 3 game. But now Hayden Blackman and Lucas Arts is about to put an end to the drought and put the Star Wars universe on it’s ass in style with The Force Unleashed.

After a few lengthy delays the full game is scheduled for release on September 16th 2008 for pretty much every system known except the PC and we got a taste of how bad-ass it will be on August 21 when the official demo was released. Don’t listen to the negative fanfare about this game, the whiny bitches all over the internet cry about no multiplayer in the Xbox and PS3 versions that there is not enough saber combat and that the way he is holding the saber is “retarded” or not “the right way”. Well piss off kids because this is the game real Star Wars fans have been waiting for ever since we watched A New Hope over 20 years ago.

TFU is set between Episode III and IV where George Lucas has allowed little to no story telling. I’m not going to go over plot lines because it’s classic Star Wars and it’s good. Trust me I’ve read it all and Blackman is a good writer, you won’t be disappointed. On to important things like unleashing your force powers all over rebel scum and unsuspecting storm troopers. The demo opens inside a Tie Fighter construction facility and gives you some modest force powers to start out but it’s plenty to go on. You will be able to throw, push, and impale anyone you want. You can pick up almost everything and even pull things from the walls and ceiling. Once in the hanger you can yank down one of those Tie Fighters and politely put it on top of a group of storm troopers. I put up some simple videos that show me demonstrating a few of my favorite things to do. What’s great is listening to the rebel or trooper once you start throwing them around. After I put one through a gravity test he says “Oh so this is how it’s going to be” then I promptly shoot him full of force lighting and boot him across the room. The full game is not far away now and it’s been worth the wait. The Force Unleashed will make you feel like a bad ass in every sense of the word every minute of the game. You’ll be doing things Luke Skywalker only dreamed about.

Sorry for the low quality of the video I don't have a capture card so I filmed it with my digital camera and edited using Movie Maker and threw in the theme to TFU. It just gives you a idea of what is in store.
